Thanks to his many years of experience, Mr Vávra helps customers design and implement their plastics production workplaces.
Source: Svět Plastu, May 2025

What made you change your place of work?

Ten years ago, I was approached by FANUC to see whether I would try to develop sales of the company’s injection molding machines. At that time, FANUC was known mainly in the field of six-axis robots and CNC systems. Its injection molding machines, however, were almost unknown in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Over the course of ten years, I managed to build a strong and stable customer base and, above all, to bring the technology of fully electric injection molding machines into general awareness. I helped move it from being a technology for specialist enthusiasts to something broadly accepted and understood. And now to what made me change my place of work. It was, of course, the high quality and technological sophistication of TOYO injection molding machines, and above all the opportunity to offer a broader tonnage portfolio of fully electric injection molding machines.

“During the discussions, I felt the atmosphere of a friendly company, where everyone treats one another as colleagues and works together towards a shared goal — a satisfied customer.”

Since when have you been working at Borra?

I have been with Borra since 1 March 2025, and my first task was to enjoy the children’s spring holidays together with my family. So, in practical terms, I actually started work on 10 March 2025.

What appealed to you about TOYO?

I partly outlined the reason why I joined Borra in my first answer. It is the broader portfolio of injection molding machines, ranging from 50 to 1,300 tonnes of clamping force for fully electric injection molding machines, as well as the option to offer fully electric TOYO vertical injection molding machines. Last but not least, it is also the atmosphere within Borra. During the discussions, I felt the atmosphere of a friendly company, where everyone treats one another as colleagues and works together towards a shared goal — a satisfied customer.

Do you think TOYO injection molding machines are worth the attention of potential customers?

I do not think so — I am convinced of it. And for two reasons. The first comes from my experience with plastic injection molding technology, which I began gaining in 1999 as an electromechanic responsible for maintenance and repairs of more or less all brands of injection molding machines available on the Czech market. I finished that stage of my career in 2015 as a project engineer. So I can assess the technological and manufacturing quality of injection molding machines from a professional point of view. Based on that assessment, TOYO machines are at a top level. The second reason is simpler. TOYO machines represent the next step in the development of fully electric injection molding machines. Mitsubishi, which was a pioneer of this technology on our market, earned its reputation thanks to its high technical level and almost indestructible construction. TOYO manufactured machines up to 280 tonnes for Mitsubishi. This means that customers who appreciate the quality and reliability of Mitsubishi can, after Mitsubishi’s departure from the European market, acquire modern machines at a top technical level, with extensive support and complete service in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

“By purchasing a TOYO machine, the customer does not gain only advanced technology, but also my personal commitment — to be available and help solve any problem.”

In what way are TOYO machines exceptional?

TOYO machines stand out thanks to several key features that make them exceptional. They do not require water for cooling the servomotors and electrical equipment, which further reduces operating costs. Thanks to the largest motors in their class, they offer high reliability, low energy consumption and stable performance even under maximum load and with long holding pressure times.

The open system enables external devices, such as core pullers or hot runners, to be controlled directly from the machine. Energy consumption remains conservatively at around 0.25 kWh/kg regardless of machine size, ensuring consistently low operating costs. TOYO machines also consume a minimum amount of lubricant, and their robust construction provides a large distance between platens and tie bars, which makes mold handling easier and expands the range of possible applications. By purchasing a TOYO machine, the customer does not gain only advanced technology, but also my personal commitment — to be available and help solve any problem.

What is interesting about the portfolio that Borra offers?

Borra stands on several pillars. In today’s turbulent times, this is important for the stability of the company. We offer plastic colouring, so-called masterbatch, as well as all parts for injection units — from barrels, screws, check valves and nozzles through to heating elements for injection units. We also offer Campetella manipulators, which we are able to supply together with turnkey automation. Last but not least, there are also systems for drying and conveying granulate; in this area, we cooperate with PP Kovanda. This means that the customer can bring us a part, and we can deliver a complete turnkey production system.

Do you have your own implementation team?

The answer to this question is partly already included in the previous answer. In the case of implementation, Borra fully takes over project management. At the same time, it supplies the injection molding machines, handling systems and automation itself. For other peripherals, Borra cooperates with proven external suppliers. In the field of granulate handling, this is PP Kovanda. In the case of temperature control equipment, it depends on which manufacturer the customer chooses. If the customer leaves this choice to us, we will help find the optimal solution.

We assume that when launching production lines, you work closely with the customer?

Every project is, at the beginning, worked through in detail in the office, and a contract is then concluded specifying the project stages and handover procedures. Believe me, every project is different, and the procedures vary depending on the customer’s requirements.

How do you cover service for the equipment and services you provide to customers?

Of course, it is impossible to operate without service. I always say that the first machine is sold by the salesperson; the next ones are sold by service and customer support. For all equipment we supply, first-class and high-quality service is ensured.

“The most important factor in minimising downtime is cooperation between us and the customer. We try to make the customer as independent of us as possible.”

How do you organise service intervention when needed in order to minimise production downtime?

The most important factor in minimising downtime is cooperation between us and the customer. We try to make the customer as independent of us as possible. It may sound like a contradiction. However, if we provide high-quality training for setters and, above all, for the technicians who take care of the machines at the customer’s site, production outages almost do not occur. And if they do occur, the phone call they then have with me is much simpler, because we speak the same “language”. In most cases, the customer is able to resolve the issue themselves, without a visit from me or from one of our service technicians. In the end, this approach is much more effective for the customer than paying for a service technician to come on site. In the case of a 24/7 system, its effectiveness must always be considered, because a service technician on site without spare parts makes no sense and is only a waste of costs for a service that is possible, but, as I have said, expensive.

How do you deal with spare parts?

The central spare parts warehouse is in Italy, near Milan. From this warehouse, we are able to deliver the required part within two working days. If a shorter delivery time is needed, this is handled individually with each customer.

“When you buy a TOYO machine, you are not just buying technology — you are gaining a reliable partner.”

How long are you able to keep machines in good operating condition?

Thanks to the quality and technical sophistication of the production, we are able to keep the machines in operation for an almost unlimited period of time. In the case of TOYO, the criterion for whether to continue operating a machine is more about general technological obsolescence than the machine’s inability to produce. Try asking a setter whether they would rather work on a 30-year-old machine with a tiny display, or on a new machine with a twenty-inch screen. Their answer is obvious.

What would you say in conclusion?

When you buy a TOYO machine, you are not just buying technology — you are gaining a reliable partner. TOYO is a purely Japanese brand built on precision, predictability and long-term customer support. It is not only about machines; it is about being able to rely on them today, tomorrow and ten years from now.

And how do we do this? We do not pretend to have a universal solution. With every customer, we look for a path that makes sense specifically for them. TOYO and Borra always stand in the background of your business, supporting you and helping you create value. You build your business; we provide the reliable tool and the assurance that you are not alone.

[1

post-8362","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized-cs
["https://www.borra.cz/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/borra-vaclav-vavra-1024x683.jpg",1024,683,true
["GET
